Don't know what to tell you, guy. Played the game with a one-button mouse, it worked fine.
Um... So, you sucked? Because seriously, not sure how you could play competitively at all without a two button mouse. Unless you had 450APM, so it was okay to blow 200 on Ctrl clicking.

Exactly. You do not understand what control click did. Hold in control and it operates as the other mouse click. Once you get used to it you barely notice the annoyance.

Among my peers I played better than any of em. I could micro 6 units to take out 12 equivalents. I could easily go 1v7 AI. Meh. Using a Mac did not equal sucking in SC.

Yes, I am familiar with Ctrl click. Like I just said. If you can afford to waste approximately half your actions clicking Ctrl, you are a fucking God if you could win even a bush league tournament like that.

I just never had a good experience with a Mac - I can get past the interface being different (you'd expect that, and it can probably be configured to be "like Windows" anyway), they just never worked well for what I was doing. So it came down to "inferior product, costs more, come across as a hipster, can't upgrade or repair it without sending it off to a secret Mac lab where they charge me whatever they want".

That it works for you is swell, Akula. But in my experience they're useless, and this makes The Mac Guy (I can't tell them apart, they're also usually The Attention Vegan though) doubly annoying.

So much like Jesus, Bleach and 4E, the thing I hate most about the Mac is it's fans.

It didn't take up any extra time. My pinky would just tap it when I needed that click. If anything it may be faster since I did not need to move my mouse finger as all.

There are TONS of valid reasons to hate macs. Especially if you are posting on forums via a fucking iPod. Arg! But having SC problems is not one of those valid reasons in my experience. My play was no better or worse from Mac to PC in Starcraft.

Are you missing fingers or something? Why would you ever need to move your mouse finger? You have one on each button, you click with the finger you need. I am genuinely bamboozled.

Look, maybe if you suck, it's okay to have one button, but no, if you actually use your hotkeys well, you left hand is also busy, and can't afford to go from right top-left top of keyboard and take time to hit Ctrl in between.

One button mice are a total joke. I can't believe they still have those. I mean... damn.

LOL. My kingdom for a jpeg of a mouse being used by someone with only a middle finger! Ok I was retard for that comment. I still stand by that I had no trouble tapping ctrl when necessary and yes I was a hotkey whore and 10 years ago I was pretty dern good on a Mac or not.

[edit:]It is getting pretty tired that your only argument is a non-argument about sucking. I can just as easily state a baseless argument that you must suck if you cannot play well by using ctrl-click. It is pointless and abrasive as a means and an end.

My fingers can flick around plenty damned fast (80 WPM, so about 400 CharPM, probably much faster in this case since hotkeys are a smaller set of keys). Even at my most frantic times in game, that was more than necessary to play SC well.

A gripe and a joke about the United Way (although only indirectly related in both cases).

The Gripe: A many years ago (when laptops were large had no practical battery life and disk space was measured in megabytes) I worked as a consultant in Met Life. They had the United Way drives every year. There was this HUGE display with marbles and cylenders (sort of like those old fashioned candy things only HUGE) and the cylenders were filled according to how many EMPLOYEES (sans consultants) contributed. If you had 100% participation, you got a flag on top. If you had even one employee not contributing ... NO FLAG. Somehow, in my several years there we never got the flag; marbles practically to the top, but no flag.

Since it was purely based on percentage involvement, it really never was about raising money (after all, on a per capita basis, the group with 50% might have given more than the group with 100% since each person gave whatever amount they wanted) but about total and absolute control over the workers though guilt.

The Joke: One of my father's co-workers once thought the United Way was a retirement account. He thought by giving to the United Way every year he was helping his retirement. (Fortunately, they were all covered by the very generous college retirement system of TIAA/CREF.)

In my very first job I was coerced by my manager to donate to United Way, with his only explanations were that everyone else was doing it at our work and... I had to. After that job I vowed never to contribute to that organization again.

Good work United Way.

What the hell is United Way, anyway?
Cuz apparently I gotta break this down for you dense motherfuckers- I'm trans feminine nonbinary. My pronouns are they/them.

A former employer of mine also pressured me to donate to the United Way. The next year they pressured me into giving more. If my spine had finished growing back in (it was shortly after my darker times), I would have given a colorful description about what they could do.

Don't get me wrong, Charity is great. I'm a working man, that $2 might mean a huge difference. Go pester some middle class twit, they got more money then they know what to do with.

Swordslinger wrote:The mac advertising campaign is all image to disguise a crap product. It's funny when I ask mac people what they like about them over PCs, they can never give me a definitive example. They always say something vague like "It's easier to use" yet can never offer anything specific. The mac people are the sheep, even though they claim everyone else is. They've been totally bought off by the advertising campaign.
Thread necromancy and all, but I think this is amusing, so I'll share. I asked a Mac user why she liked Macs, and this was one of the reasons she gave me: "Error messages on the PC are mean." I was like, "Buh?" She explained:
  • Mean: "User error: invalid input."
  • Nice: "We're sorry, Mac has encountered an error."
So, lesson: informative error messages that actually help are a bad thing, 'cause they're like, not obsequious and vague enough.
Current pet peeves:
Misuse of "per se". It means "[in] itself", not "precisely". Learn English.
Malformed singular possessives. It's almost always supposed to be 's.
